ABC Clio

ABC Clio is a book publishing company based in Goleta, CA with a focus on academic references and periodicals. The Interiors team worked closely with ABC Clio to create a functional and invigorating workplace that is distinctly theirs. The 13,200 square foot office space boasts full height storefront glass with plentiful mountains views, ample natural light, and outdoor patio for the occupants. The office is split over two floors and houses both private offices and open workspace, conference rooms, kitchen, a film studio, warehouse space, and book storage. The double height atrium, known as “The Library”, unites the floors and serves as a gathering and alternative work space for employees. The area features a unique reading area with three-sided infinity bookshelves and upholstered reading nook tucked under the stairwell. On a two-story feature wall across the way, the ABC Clio mantra “Explore, Connect, Understand” is displayed in giant super graphics derived from excerpts of text from selected company publications. Inspired by traditional printing presses, the reception area welcomes visitors with a 12'-0" high wall of oversized wood block letters, words, and characters and includes integrated guest seating. The team selected a sophisticated palette of neutrals and warm light wood for flooring, walls, and custom millwork, mixing in black metal accents and clear glazing for contrast. The space is intended to be bright and understated, focusing on the employees’ comfort and the company’s rich history of published works. *Project was completed while employed at the Cearnal Collective.
