Lion’s Tale

Stepping into this cocktail bar is like entering a world where elegance quietly commands attention, a space steeped in loungey old-world charm. The bar is a thoughtfully designed space that blends classic glamour with a rich, moody atmosphere that is both welcoming and intriguing to guests. Nestled on the ground floor of the historic Montecito Inn and inspired by the grandeur of Europe’s most iconic hotel bars, the interior features a rich palette of saturated hues like deep cabernet and almost-black navy blue, accented by antique brass, marble, and leather elements that add warmth and character. The space is draped in the elegance of a bygone era, where the clinking of cocktail glassware mingles with jazz music and the chatter of a diverse mix of patrons in the heart of Montecito, California.

The walls are adorned with classic wainscot paneling, complimented by a unique velvet striped wallcovering that creates a refined and bold setting perfect for imbibing.  An ornate metal ceiling adds a touch of traditional sensibility, enhancing the overall sophistication of the space. The revamped bar boasts paneled arches and mirrored tile highlighting the extensive and meticulously curated bar offerings. Custom banquettes and bar stools upholstered in rich ostrich-like faux leather and thick velvets offer both comfort and style, encouraging guests to linger and enjoy their experience. The decorative lighting steeped in crystal and ornate glass brings in a bit of glitz and warmth to illuminate the space and reinforce the inviting ambiance.  Smaller lounge seating clusters encourage patrons to gather in small groups or tuck away for a quiet conversation, allowing higher profile guests some privacy. Every element has been designed with intention, resulting in a unique space that marries classic sophistication with a contemporary sensibility, making it a perfect retreat for all.

The project was a renovation of an existing restaurant space that boasted an airy, light-filled coastal feel and open kitchen, a completely different vibe and service model than the new venue. MN Studio showcased their expertise with creative material selections and a nimble design approach to address existing conditions and maximize the impact of the remodel within a tight timeline and budget. The team relied on heavy collaboration with the operator and guided efficient decision making to produce a high end product within the project budget and schedule.
